Volunteer Advancement Assistant

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is passionate about its mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS volunteers help carry out this mission by supporting patients, family members, healthcare professionals, and their communities; driving policy advocacy; participating in campaigns; and helping LLS build much-needed capacity.

Volunteer role

The Donor Development Department cultivates relationships with individual and foundation donors to support LLS’s mission, providing donors with the information and recognition that demonstrates their impact and LLS's appreciation. The volunteer will help the Donor Development Department execute regular mailings, ensure database maintenance, assist in the acknowledgement process, and other administrative tasks. This role will help LLS secure necessary mission funding.

Volunteer tasks

  • Small in-house mailings to donors/prospects
  • List and customer relation management (CRM)
  • Print and stuff envelopes and letters
  • Database maintenance and basic data entry
  • Update Giving Circle
  • Contact chapters to initiate leadership acknowledgment process

Volunteer should possess the following skills/qualifications:

  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Familiarity with mail merge from Excel into Word
  • Ability to learn CRM 360 (training will be provided)

Time commitment

This is an ongoing role with a desired commitment of six months. Shift schedule can be structured and regular (i.e. 3-4 days per week for 2-3 hours per day) or based on volunteer availability and LLS needs. Work must be completed during business hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m.)

Training and benefits

LLS will provide the volunteer with an orientation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as well as training on 360 and the equipment needed to complete the mailings.

Benefits include free parking, computer and work space (provided solely for the purpose of this project), access to LLS resources, reference for college credit (need must be indicated at the time of volunteer interview for consideration). There is no required background check.
