Health Education Research Volunteer

The Catskill Hudson Area Health Education Center (AHEC) provides health vocational development services in order to meet the needs of underserved communities. It offers two-year service learning projects for students from professional health training programs.

It is seeking a volunteer, ideally with a graduate degree and a background in health services and education, to help identify community-based health services sites that might wish to host a group of AHEC Scholars.

Desired skills include:

  • Experience as a direct service health provider or administrator
  • Experience in higher education, such as being a faculty member or professor, in the health professions
  • Experience managing or implementing community-based internships
  • Interest in health profession training strategies, social determinants of health, and connecting students in vocational training programs to employers
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous situations in collaboration with executive agency leadership
  • Commitment to promoting career growth for students from underserved and diverse populations
  • Interest in urban and rural health
  • Strong communication and outreach skills
  • A willingness to fail (and improve!)
  • Experience with federally funded program development, especially in health and human services

This is a remote volunteer position that requires a telephone and personal computer with e-mail capacity and internet service.
