Volunteer Chapter Presidents

Pajama Program is a national nonprofit organization that promotes and supports a comforting bedtime routine for children to help them thrive. Since 2001, it has provided over 6.5 million inspiring storybooks and cozy pajamas to children nationwide who are experiencing challenges beyond their control, as well as critical resources for caregivers to support children at bedtime. Through its network of 4,000 Community Partners, 60+ volunteer Chapter Presidents, and Reading Centers, its goal is to create "good nights for good days" for all children, everywhere.

Pajama Program is looking to recruit 1-2 volunteer Chapter Presidents to cover the Westchester area. Chapter Presidents act as ambassadors in the local community to raise awareness of the organization while collecting donations to benefit the children who are experiencing challenges. Key components of becoming a Chapter President includes:

  1. Communicating with local businesses, schools, and individual donors about the Pajama Program's mission and how they can get involved. The Chapter President is the point person for the Community Partners (those who receive the benefit of the donations collected) in their chapters. Chapter Presidents will be provided with a list of approved organizations to distribute such items to; they may also add others to this growing list.
  2. Helping recruit volunteers for reading parties at one of their local community partners. These events last about one hour and include a one-on-one reading with a child.
  3. Reporting all incoming and outgoing donations via an online form on a monthly basis. This allows the Pajama Program to continue reaching as many children as possible and advising its donor base accordingly.
  4. Partners (like Carter’s and Scholastic) hold drives on Pajama Program's behalf at the end of the year, in addition to schools, corporate, and individual donors.

Volunteers are not required to travel to pick up or distribute donations in their area unless it is convenient. The Pajama Program can also make arrangements to have volunteers speak directly with a seasoned chapter president to hear what his/her experience has been.
