Velocity, Columbia's Ride to End Cancer

Velocity - Columbia’s Ride to End Cancer is in need of Volunteers. The Ride takes place on Sunday, October 7, 2018. We are in need of Site Volunteers and Road Crew. Both Volunteer types are crucial to the success of Velocity and the major difference between them is the time you’re able to commit to the event. If you’re able to commit to the entire day and are 18 or older, please register as a Road Crew Volunteer. Site Volunteers must be 16 years old and commit to shorter shifts on the day of the event at one of our four Start Areas or the Finish Line Festival. Below is a list of Volunteer needs:

 

Start Areas:

  • Palisades Credit Union Park, Pomona, NY: 6am-11am
  • Mindray North America Headquarters, Mahwah, NJ: 7:30am-12:30pm
  • Chromalloy Headquarters, Orangeburg, NY: 9am-2:30pm
  • New Milford,NJ (exact location TBD): 10am-4pm

 

Finish Line Festival:

  • 8am-12pm
  • 12pm-5pm

 

Road Crew:

  • Sweep, 8am-3:30pm:
    • Drive one of our official event vehicles (no personal vehicles allowed) and pick up Riders with fatigue or mechanical issues
    • Secure bikes on bike racks for transport on the road and remove bike at the next rest stop along the route
    • Must have a valid drivers license
    • No personal vehicles allowed; you will be driving an event vehicle

 

  • Route Closure Assistant, 8am-3:30pm:
    • Drive one of our official event vehicles (no personal vehicles allowed) and drive our Route Closure staff to monitor the route
    • Work with Rest Stop teams to close rest stops according to schedule
    • Must have valid drivers license

 

  • Caboose Assistant, 8am-3:30pm:
    • Drive one of our official event vehicles (no personal vehicles allowed) and drive our Caboose staff and follow the last Rider (always remain behind the last Rider)
    • Must have valid drivers license

 

  • Bike Marshal, 8am-3:30pm:
    • Ride along the route ensuring Rider safety
    • Provides cautionary information and general inspiration
    • Must be an avid cyclists, experienced in leading groups and have basic knowledge of bike fixes
    • Must provide their own bike and wear an ANSI certified helmet at all times
