Vacation Relief Volunteers for Puppy Trainers
Putnam Service Dogs adopts mixed-breed puppies from local rescue organizations and trains them to become trusting, loving service animals that assist people with physical disabilities other than blindness. It relies on volunteers to help raise these puppies and prepare them for a formal training period. Sometimes, even these volunteers need short-term relief (usually for one week) while they go on vacation or if they have a situation that prevents them from caring for their pup.
When this happens, Putnam Service Dogs contacts its team of Vacation Relief Volunteers to help. All supplies, including the pup's crate, will be provided to the volunteer. If the Vacation Relief Volunteer has pet dogs in their families, a trainer will visit the home to determine if they'll do well with the puppy.
