2019 Battle of the Books

The Westchester Library System is looking for energetic volunteers for its sixth annual Westchester Battle of the Books competition. This year’s Battle will be on Saturday October 19, 2019 from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Hommocks Middle School in Larchmont.

Battle of the Books is a book-based trivia tournament for grades 4 through 10. The goal of the program is to promote a love of reading and to inspire teamwork and good sportsmanship in an atmosphere of friendly competition. It’s a fun day for everyone—team members and volunteers alike!

Eighty volunteers are needed for the following roles:

• Emcees: read the questions in each battle round and award points to the team that answers correctly
• Room Monitors: ensure the number of people in a room does not exceed fire code limit and maintain a quiet and respectful atmosphere for the battle round to run smoothly.
• Runners: bring the scores from the battle round hallway to the Scoremaster in the gym after each round.
• Greeters: help run the registration desk, check in volunteers and teams, and help set up for the Final Battle.
• Gym Monitors: help keep order in the gym between battle rounds.
• Lunch Helpers: hand out pizza and water to teams during the break.
• Photographers: take photos of the day, capturing memories!
• Timekeepers: keep time for each battle round.
• Scorekeepers: keep score for each battle round.
