Grant Research Project

At The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), we're passionate about our mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS volunteers help carry out this mission in so many ways: supporting patients, family members, healthcare professionals, and our community, driving policy advocacy, participating in our campaigns, and helping LLS build much needed capacity. 
The outcomes of this role serve our mission work.  The volunteer will be required to perform research, engagement and data entry tasks including:
  • Engage with past LLS grantees to develop a scientific timeline to help LLS understand how our research program funding has supported innovations and leaders in cancer.
  • Identify the past LLS grantee audience, and connect with that audience through phone and/or email to create an Excel database.
  • Confirm contact information for past and current grantees and identify ways they may or may not be interested in supporting LLS (volunteer, speaker, donor, guest blogger, etc.)
  • Create an historical grant timeline that allows LLS to determine the evolution of clinical trials and those who were leading them.
  • This is an excellent opportunity to build research and project management skills. Volunteer will report to Lee Greenberger, SVP and Chief Scientific Officer. 
Additional Position Information:

LLS will provide the volunteer with an orientation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society including an overview of LLS clinical trial history, as well as training in LLS specific software needed to complete the project. •Benefits: Free Parking •Computer and work space provided solely for the purpose of this project •Reference for college credit is possible. Need must be indicated at the time of volunteer interview for consideration. 

Location: Rye Brook, NY Home Office

Time Commitment: 
  • Project is anticipated to take approximately 100-120 hours to complete.

  • Flexible schedule based on mutually agreed upon times. 

  • Work must be completed during business hours 9am – 5pm. 

  • ​Project starts as soon as appropriate volunteer is identified.

Qualifications:
  • Ideal volunteers will either hold or be pursuing a degree, have an interest in science or the history of science;

  • Be proficient with Microsoft Excel; and 

  • Exhibit strong customer service as well as verbal and written communication skills

  • Have an ability to get to/from the Rye Brook, NY office;
