2017-2018 Welcome Home Bags for Women Released from Rockland County Jail

Volunteers are needed to create Welcome Home Bags to meet the essential needs of women released from the Rockland County Jail.

Nyack Center's Family Connections Program provides support to incarcerated mothers and their families in Rockland. Often overwhelmingly poor and struggling with mental health and addiction illnesses, these women have been separated from their families and their children due to their incarceration.

One thing that has presented as a universal need for these women upon release from jail is a need for essential personal items. While clothing items are offered through various non-profits in Rockland county, we have been hard-pressed to find an agency that offers essential items such as bras and underwear.

That’s why we came up with the idea of creating Welcome Home Bags. 

A Welcome Home Bag is a reusable tote bag that you stuff with essential items for women such as new bras (provided by ThirdLove) and underwear, shampoo, conditioner, a hairbrush, tampons, toothpaste and toothbrush, liquid soap and loofah, deodorant, baby wipes, and a daily affirmation book or message of encouragement and triumph.  

Bra company ThirdLove has generously commited to donate bras for inclusion in the Welcome Home bags, we need volunteers to provide the other essential items.

As the items are of a personal nature please "express interest" below to contact the opportunity coordinator Jennifer Mancuso and receive information regarding sizes and preferences before beginning to purchase the items to put your Welcome Home Bag together.

It would be a profound gesture to welcome these women back to society by acknowledging and accommodating their essential needs.
