Caregiver Partner

Caregiver Volunteers ensure that the caregivers of patients admitted to Westchester Medical Center receive emotional and spiritual support, information, and practical assistance in a comfortable environment. Retirees are especially welcome!

Responsibilities:

• Welcome/greet caregivers to the Center and provide information about the Center's services and amenities
• Sign-in caregivers and determine their immediate needs
• Assist with accessing Internet, email, and other electronic devices
• Host, bus, and maintain supplies for afternoon tea
• Reach out to caregivers in hospital as directed
• Refer guests to appropriate resources in hospital and community
• Inform the Director of issues related to Caregiver Center
• Attend training and orientation for the program
• Listen, be nonjudgmental, and be supportive. Don't be afraid to ask for assistance!

• Understanding of the impact of trauma and illness on the caregiver
• Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and compassion in emotionally charged situations
• Good critical thinking, listening, and communications skills
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently
• A friendly manner, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of guests
