My Second Home Volunteer

Program Description: My Second Home, an award-winning intergenerational adult day program, helps maximize an impaired person’s ability to participate in their own ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), practice retained social competencies, and facilitate comfortable and self-directed social interaction. We base our programs on strengthening and maintaining bio/psycho/social activities. A variety of exercise programs are taught to maintain and build bone and muscle strength, and increase range of motion. Nutritious meals and snacks based on individual dietary needs. 

Hours: The program is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:30pm, and Saturdays from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Volunteer hours are established with the Program Coordinator. A consistent schedule is preferred. If a volunteer is unable to come in as scheduled, s/he should let staff know ahead of time. Volunteers are counted on in planning the daily schedule.

Activities/Duties: Volunteers who have trained only may assist with regularly established activities, spend some individual time with a participant, or become involved in other ways of particular interest to the volunteer. Expectations are worked out with the Program Coordinator.

Activities/Duties:  Volunteers may prepare/clean-up program activities/office work, converse with participants, entertain participants.  Expectations are worked out with the Program Coordinator.

Qualifications: Interest in and concern for older people; ability to work cooperatively with a team; supportive and clear communication skills.

Guidelines: Keep in mind the goals of the program – to provide socialization and stimulation for our participants during your time with us.
