Lend a Hand During National Hispanic Heritage Month!

National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15) is a time when Americans can reflect on the historical and cultural contributions of immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries. Take a look at some of our recent opportunities to volunteer in tribute to National Hispanic Heritage Month:

+ Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Prevention Program

Everyone, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation, deserves to live in a safe environment free from fear and abuse. The Westchester Hispanic Coalition is providing an opportunity to foster intersectional outreach in their Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault & Enough is Enough Programs with a special emphasis on giving Latino and Spanish-speaking communities the tools needed to seek help in dangerous living conditions. Volunteers would help work hotlines, escort survivors to court dates and medical appointments and provide classes on how to detect and report rape and domestic abuse. Those who choose to enlist must be proficient in Spanish and English.

+ College Coach

During National Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize the extra efforts given to those in disadvantaged communities who do not have many of the same social and financial opportunities which others have. In order to lift others out of their predicament, you can help young people achieve the chances of a higher education by volunteering as a college coach! Latino U College Access is proud to offer a chance for others to serve as mentors to low-income Hispanic youth who need extra help completing forms, writing personal statements and applying for financial aid. Volunteers will work with high school graduates who are seeking to enroll in college by helping them gather the communicative and literary tools they need, in order to navigate the college application process. In order to enroll in this program, attendees must fill out an online form and complete an interview, background check and workshop.

+ Intro2America Volunteer

Lincoln High School is doing its part in integrating newcomers into an academic environment which is focused on giving each new student the educational tools they need to succeed! The Intro2American program focuses on welcoming immigrant students into a tolerant and inclusive atmosphere which puts the spotlight on improving English-speaking skills, as well as helping them adjust to a different country with an emphasis on linking their past lives with new beginnings.
