National Volunteer Week 2017 - Huguenot Park Clean Up Day

Thank you to the over one-hundred volunteers who donated time and talent to beautify Huguenot Park this past Sunday, April 23rd, helping us kick off National Volunteer Week while making a difference locally! This Earth Day weekend cleanup was coordinated by Volunteer New York! and the City of New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Department.

Volunteers helped with picking up over 300 pounds of trash from the park grounds and lake, re-chipping the walking path with 500 cubic yards of wood chips, and sweeping and cleaning up Jack’s Friendship Park.

Local students and groups joined the effort, including from the Iona College Volleyball team, New Rochelle High School Honor Society and Environmental Club, New Rochelle Youth Bureau, ICON - Islamic Center Of New-Rochelle and others.

“Huguenot Park is one of our most popular parks, serving all ages, interests and abilities. Thanks to the tremendous turnout, we’re set for spring,” said New Rochelle Parks & Recreation Commissioner Bill Zimmermann. “We are grateful to all the volunteers, and for the valuable partnerships we’ve made in the process.”
