Create a Week's Worth of Outfits from Donated Clothing for Children in Need

Volunteers will help sort and package back to school clothing for local children in need. The Sharing Shelf collects new and gently used clothing for infants, youth and teens. That clothing is distributed to area children at no cost through food pantries, schools and nonprofits. Each child receives a week's worth of clothing matched into outfits. September is one of our busiest months.

*This is a family-friendly project for children 10 and over with an adult. If you are interested in signing up as a family, please choose Sign up with a team. Note that must have a 1:1 ratio of children to adults. Thanks!

** Dress comfortable; you will be in a warehouse and moving around a lot.

This project is a part of 9/11: Serve + Remember.

About The Sharing Shelf: The Sharing Shelf collects new and gently-used clothing for infants, youth and teens. Clothing is then sorted by quality, size, season and gender then distributed at no cost to local children and teens from low-income families through more than 40 area nonprofits, social service agencies and schools. Each child receives a week's worth of seasonally appropriate clothing matched into outfits according to their sizing needs. Social workers, therapists, teachers, attorneys and others working with low-income families in the Westchester community submit requests for their clients. Twice a year, The Sharing Shelf also creates a pop-up boutique for teen girls called Teen Boutique. At Teen Boutique, low-income girls are invited to shop for free seasonally appropriate clothing and accessories. The Sharing Shelf was founded by a volunteer and relies on volunteers to accomplish its work.
