Site Captains Needed - 9/11: Service + Remember

As a Site Captain you will be our ambassador at one of the volunteer projects for 9/11: Serve + Remember, taking place Saturday, September 9th - Monday, September 11th.
 
If you are a clear communicator, a motivator, and problem solver, we want you as a Site Captain!

The volunteers who sign up for a 9/11 project will look to you for information, leadership and guidance. You help set the tone before and during the project.

The ideal Site Captain is flexible, enthusiastic, calm and organized! 
 
Training is provided and we work with you to pick a project that fits your schedule. This is a great opportunity to build leadership skills.
 
Site Captain Responsibilities Include: 
Before the event
  • Familiarize yourself with the volunteer projects (a specific Project Information Sheet will be sent to you)
  • Introduce yourself via e-mail to your team of volunteers (template and e-mails to be provided by Volunteer New York!)
  • Pick up the t-shirts and other applicable forms for your site from Volunteer New York! 
  • Attend the training
 On the day of the event
  • If supplies are needed for your project, ensure that all of the supplies are onsite and ready for the volunteers
  • Display event signage
  • Check in volunteers as they arrive and welcome them to the project
  • Serve as the liaison between the volunteers and the agency contact
  • Remain flexible. We plan for successful projects but there can be circumstances that remain out of anyone’s control. Flexibility ensures that volunteer and agency expectations are met.
  • Work with your agency contact to maintain a steady level of activity. Projects are much more successful when volunteers feel their time was well spent and that little time was wasted
  • Take photos if no photographer has been assigned
 After the event
  • Record significant project highlights and impact (worksheet to be provided by Volunteer New York!)
  • Call Volunteer New York! with updates and feedback
  • Record attendance
  • Send or deliver photos and event materials back to Volunteer New York!
