Stuff a Shirt or Bag For the Homeless
Many homeless people find themselves moving from one shelter to another, hauling all of their clothes and other possessions in trash bags. They often have limited and inconsistent access to personal care items like soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. Volunteers are invited to host a stuffed shirt event at their office or home during which they can gather family and friends to collect new toiletries that they can then pack inside soft suitcases, duffel bags, large backpacks. No duffel bags? No problem! A new or gently worn extra-large T-shirt doubles perfectly as a sack. Stuff these items with small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, soaps, washcloths, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, body lotions, shaving cream, cotton swabs, and any other personal care items someone might need. Volunteers can also include baby wipes, diaper cream, kids' shampoo and conditioner, and kids' toothbrushes and toothpaste. If using a T-shirt, simply wrap it up around the items like a sack or bag and tie it together with ribbon or string. For a personal touch, make a label with a goodwill wish and attach it to the ribbon or the handle of the suitcase. #donatetoiletries #remotevolunteer
