2013-2018 Compeer Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for Compeer of WJCS, one of 50 chapters of an international program in which 1:1 matches are made between volunteers from the community and people in mental health treatment who are referred by mental health professionals. Each Compeer volunteer is matched with someone of the same sex and makes a commitment to be a friend to that person for at least a year. The time commitment can be as little as four hours per month, and Compeer matches typically share activities such as going to the movies, eating out, taking walks and talking on the phone. Compeer volunteers and clients are also invited to a variety of free group activities each year. 
Compeer gives volunteers the opportunity to directly help people who may feel isolated, lonely and misunderstood by offering them empathic, nonjudgmental friendship, thus increasing their confidence and improving their social skills.  Training, supervision and support is provided to volunteers.
